Welcome to my first blog
Hey, my name is Chelsea Cauwenbergh. For those who already know the practice or the website, know that I am the founder of Hydro-Fysio. My love for animals, my passion to help others and my irresistible urge to travel have given me the opportunity to achieve a lot with Hydro-Fysio. From the beautifully equipped practice in Mechelen to volunteer work in faraway Central America or South-East Asia, I always try to leave the world a little better with my own positive contribution. Yes, I know, that sounds very cliché... But that is exactly the reason why Hydro-Fysio was created and I am very proud of that!
Never to young to learn
From an early age I was very interested in animals. I grew up among dogs, cats and the occasional pigeon, blackbird or hedgehog in distress that I rescued with my parents. Traveling far, camping in nature and 'learning how to work hard' is also something I learned from home. Together this makes the ideal mix to roll up my sleeves and create my own place where saving and helping animals is central.
Jumping into the deep end
In 2016, with the help of my parents and my ex-partner, I decided to start my Hydro-Fysio practice in the garage of our house. A big and terrifying leap of faith because 'animal physiotherapy' was then and even now remains an unrecognized profession in Belgium. To this day, some people are surprised when I tell them what my profession is. What was always very important to me is the fact tgefdfthat I have the right knowledge and training to be able to practice this profession. My university studies as a human physiotherapist were the perfect springboard to training as an animal and dog physiotherapist. Since then, Hydro-Fysio has been a permanent fixture in the Mechelen area. In 2017 we moved the practice to a much larger and better equipped location on Nekkerspoelstraat in Mechelen. There we have more than enough space to provide an extensive range of exercise and stabilization training in combination with hydrotherapy in the underwater treadmill.
The world at your feet
Over the years I have been given the possibility and, above all, seized every opportunity to see a large part of the world. But I always got the most satisfaction during these trips from my time as a volunteer. I have worked as a volunteer in dog shelters in Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Costa Rica and Thailand. I also worked as a volunteer in a wildlife rescue in Australia where I worked with young kangaroos and other native wild animals. Finally, I also worked in a wildlife rescue in Borneo, Malaysia among the orangutans and sunbears. Although my expertise and main focus are still dogs, I also love working with all other types of animals. As long as they consist of flesh and blood, muscle and bone, the laws of physiotherapy apply to all of them. These experiences have taught me so much and I would like to expand on this in a new blog post.
Thank you for your interest !
